Cape Clear Studio 7.0.1 Installation Guide (Windows)

Cape Clear Studio 7.0.1 System Requirements

Operating System - Cape Clear Studio runs on Microsoft Windows 2003 (Service Pack 1) and Microsoft Windows XP (Service Pack 2) only. The following specifications are also recommended:
  • Approximately 1GB of disk space for a full Studio installation

  • 2GB of RAM is required to run both Studio and Server locally

  • A display resolution of at least 1024 x 768

Eclipse - Cape Clear Studio will only run within Eclipse 3.2 with WTP 1.5.3 installed. See “Cape Clear and the Eclipse Environment” for details on the Eclipse Platform and Cape Clear Studio. If you wish to install Cape Clear Studio into your existing Eclipse installation then it must meet these requirements. Alternatively, you can simply install Cape Clear Studio from a standalone setup executable which contains a full Eclipse and WTP installation.

JDK 5.0_11 or JDK 1.4.2_13 - Before installing and using Cape Clear Studio, you must have either Sun Microsystems' Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE) version 1.4.2_13 (1.4.2 Update 13) or version 5.0_11 (5.0 Update 11) installed on your computer. You can download J2SE v1.4.2 or J2SE v5.0 installers from the Sun Microsystems Web site. J2SE v5.0 is the preferred execution environment for Cape Clear Studio.

Note that Cape Clear Studio 7.0.1 has not yet been tested conclusively with JDK 6.0 (or the embedded JRE6).

It is worth noting that Cape Clear Studio will also run within a Java Runtime Environemnt (JRE). All core areas of Studio functionality (i.e. creating, deploying and testing web service projects) will run within a JRE alone. However, optional features such as generating JavaDoc will necessiate the use of a JDK.

Web Browser - The Cape Clear Manager and Cape Clear Orchestration Manager web applications are supported in the following Internet browsers:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later

  • Netscape 6.0 or later

  • Mozilla Firefox 1.0 or later

Before attempting to install Cape Clear Studio into your existing Eclipse platform, ensure that the WTP 1.5.2 plug-in is already installed (see “Eclipse Requirements” ). Note too that if your Eclipse is running on JDK 1.4 a newer version of the Xerces parser (version 2.8.2) needs to be installed (see “JDK 1.4 Requirements” ).

Procedure 5. To install the Cape Clear Studio using Eclipse's Update Manager
  1. Start your Eclipse Platform and select Help > Software Updates > Find and Install...

    Launching the update manager.

  7. It may take the update manager some time to download Cape Clear Studio depending on the size and the speed of your connection. For example, a full Cape Clear Studio update file is approximately 55 MB. Now would be a good time for that cup of coffee...

  8. Once the Cape Clear Studio plugins have been downloaded and installed, Eclipse will prompt you to either apply the changes immediately or restart Eclipse in order to apply them (this is recommended).

  9. Finally, ensure that the eclipse.ini file located in the Eclipse installation directory contains the following arguments used to set JVM memory allocation and heap size:

    -vmargs
    -Xms256m
    -Xmx512m
    -XX:MaxPermSize=256m

Two template files studio-JDK-1-5.ini and studio-JDK-1-5.ini are provided in the Cape Clear Studio installation directory and provide examples of the default arguments that should be used (depending on the JDK). See http://help.eclipse.org/help32/topic/org.eclipse.platform.doc.isv/reference/misc/runtime-options.html for details on Eclipse launcher options. See http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/tooldocs/windows/java.html for more details on JVM options.
